Zoho Analytics AI Agents: What Changed for Businesses
Zoho Analytics AI agents arrive with a semantic layer, a rebuilt Ask Zia and MCP access. See what Zoho announced and what Indian owners should check first.

Updated: 29 October 2026
Zoho Analytics AI agents are now part of the product: on 28 October 2026 Zoho announced that Zoho Analytics is becoming an "agentic analytics" platform. In simple terms, you can ask questions about your business data in plain language, and AI agents can analyse it and even trigger actions, using your own definitions of terms like "revenue" or "active customer".
Zoho says pricing is unchanged and the cloud updates are available now, though some pieces are previews. This guide explains what is new, who it suits, and what a small or medium Indian business should check before relying on it.
What did Zoho announce for Zoho Analytics?
Zoho Corporation described the update as adding a "trusted intelligence layer" so that AI agents work from your real data and business meaning, not guesses. The main additions are listed below.
- Semantic layer: a business glossary for AI that defines terms, metrics and synonyms. You can keep separate models for departments such as finance and operations, and edit them without code.
- Ontology layer: maps business entities, such as customers, orders and products, and how they relate to each other.
- Ask Zia: now a conversational "super-agent" with six pre-built sub-agents for data analysis, visualisation, data preparation, modelling, coding and SQL generation.
- Custom agents: you can build agents grounded in your own data and connect them to MCP servers, web search and other tools.
- 30+ new connectors: on top of 500+ existing ones, including SAP, PayPal, Twilio, Notion and Intercom, plus several Zoho products.
What is the semantic layer and why does it matter?
AI tools often give confusing answers because "sales" means one thing to the finance team and another to the marketing team. A semantic layer is where you write those definitions down once, so every agent answers using the same meaning.
For a growing business this is useful even without AI: it forces the team to agree on what its key numbers actually mean. The announcement also notes that results depend on accurate metric definitions and complete records, so the quality of your data still decides the quality of the answers.
- One meaning per term: define revenue, active customer or outstanding payment once, and every agent reuses it.
- Department views: finance and operations can each keep their own model without writing code.
How do agents take action, and what is MCP?
Zoho says agents can trigger actions and workflows through a built-in workflow builder. The update also adds an MCP server, a command-line interface and a Claude plug-in, so other AI tools can work with Zoho Analytics data. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for AI assistants to connect to external tools and data.
Because agents can act, Zoho includes governance tools: a data catalog with lineage, AI observability to track agent usage, access and cost, and sandbox-to-production deployment with rollback. Administrators can review which agents ran, who used them and what data they accessed.
- Sandbox first: test an agent before it reaches production, with rollback if something goes wrong.
- Visibility: see which agents ran, who used them and how they answered.
What does it cost, and when is it available?
Zoho says pricing is unchanged, and Zoho LLM credits are now included in every plan. The Basic plan is quoted at $24 per month billed annually, covering 2 users, 0.5 million rows and 10,000 LLM credits. The sources we read do not give an India price in rupees or a separate India rollout, so check the pricing page in your own account.
On timing, cloud updates are available now. Previews of pixel-perfect reporting, the ontology layer and semantic models roll out globally over the next four to eight weeks. On-premises updates are expected in the first quarter of 2027. Note that the reporting we read gives no independent performance data for the new AI features, and it is not clear how quickly AI tasks use up the included credits.
- Cloud: updates available now (28 October 2026).
- Previews: pixel-perfect reporting, ontology and semantic models roll out globally over four to eight weeks.
- On-premises: expected in Q1 2027.
What should an Indian business owner check first?
If you already use Zoho Analytics or Zoho's other business apps, this is worth a small trial. If you do not, there is no need to switch because of one announcement. A sensible way to start:
- Write down your five key numbers (for example monthly sales, outstanding payments, repeat customers) and how you calculate each one.
- Test on a copy of your data first and compare Ask Zia's answers with figures you already trust.
- Decide who can see what. Decide which data is sensitive and which agent actions need a person to approve them.
- Watch your credits. Track how many LLM credits typical questions use before you roll it out to the whole team.
- Confirm India pricing and availability inside your own Zoho account, as the announcement quotes US dollars.
Zoho Analytics AI agents turn a reporting tool into something that can answer questions and trigger actions, but the value depends on clean data and clear definitions. Start small, check answers against numbers you trust, and keep a person in charge of any action the agents take.
